Tomorrow is the baby shower..
Tomorrow is the baby shower and yesterday was my daughters 19th birthday. Where does time go? No seriously, where does time go? Is there some little gremlin that comes and steals it when you're not looking like socks and teaspoons? Maybe it's just THOSE PEOPLE that do it.
There are numerous people that write monthly letters to their children. You are now 6 months, you are now 25 months, well yesterday my daughter turned 228 months. Let me tell you of the changes that have occurred in that time.
228 months ago when she was born, she could not her own head up. She could not hold her own bottle, carry her own weight or speak. She just sorta laid there, with an IV in her head in an incubator. She was beautiful, with blue eyes and a ton of hair. But other than that, she just slept. In fact she slept so much we had to strip her naked and slap her feet to keep her awake to eat. As time progressed, she was able to hold up her own head, stay awake to eat and we didn't have to strip her naked anymore to get her to stay awake. In fact she progressed quickly. At just under 10 months, she began walking as if she had born walking. Couldn't understand why anyone didn't walk. By12 months she was running. Still had a boatload of hair and those amazing blue eyes. Around 24 months her eyes changed to a very green color. An amazing color that no words can begin to describe. Her Daddy has green eyes, but they are not like his eyes. A man she is very much like. A man she has wrapped around her little finger, has since before her birth.
Then she went through a phase where we couldn't get her to sleep, ever, at all. Apparently she had slept so much as a newborn that she had a lot of missed time to make up for. She didn't sleep from age 9 months till 108 months. She's since started catching up on all that missing sleep. She went through many changes in that time, it was fun watching her change and grow. Become her own person. We've always encouraged her to be who she is and not what other people think she should be and she has done just that. I am so proud of my daughter and the person that she has become.
Now, at 228 months, she is pregnant with own child, a daughter of her own. She worries about making sure she'll have everything the baby needs before the baby arrives. She lifts her shirt and watches as her daughter moves across her belly. Foot here, hand here and smiles. Her daughter is growing inside her. Someday soon, sooner than you think because time truly flies, her daughter will be in her arms and she'll look at me and get it. Unconditional love really is possible.
