Teenagers...
I love reading blogs about younger children and their parents. My children are not toddlers or infants. My children are not small children. We’re not potty training any longer. Although sometimes. There are things that we are no longer in control of, as if we ever were. However, they still need us in many ways. We are the mobile ATM and a taxi service. Most days we are not useful in their eyes. Of course we are not very bright. As teenagers they know everything and more, but some days, some days they are very much like the small children they once were. Some days they really do still need us.
When they are sick, they become once again the small needful children they once were. Only Mom’s chicken noodle soup and Dad’s special popsicles will do. Of course any one could go buy those things, but they’re not the same as the ones Mom and Dad get. Nothing is as good as the ones Mom and Dad get or make. Those are the times that you remember the wee ones they once were. The child who once couldn’t hold up their own head now wants to drive a car. The child who once cried if you put them down now wants to travel to Africa to take photographs.
How did it get this far? Driving a car? Getting things pierced, such as the nape of the neck, which I hate to admit really looks good. Fits her personality. Their future is much brighter than you thought it would be when they were younger and couldn’t color in the lines. As if coloring in the lines is a good thing anyway. I could never figure out why that was so important. Don’t you want people to think outside the box?
But I digress completely, the reason I started all this is because my son is sick and is going for testing on Friday. Tomorrow we start the preparation for this testing. Tomorrow he can’t have anything but clear liquids. He can’t eat anything at all. For a teenage boy, this is not easy. So tomorrow, Mom and Dad will have to come up with something that is clear and liquid that he can have, that is just something that Mom and Dad give you. Something special just for him because even though he is a teenager, three short years from voting, inside is still that small child that cried when we put him down.
